Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is defined as that portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between x-rays and infrared, i.e., between 100 and 400 nm which consists of UVA, UVB and UVC.UVA comprises more than 90% of the solar UV radiation reaching the Earth. The present study was to examine some biological effects of UVA Radiation on the concentrations of some trace elements in the skin tissue, the blood picture analysis, and histomorphological changes of skin tissues as well as the fin –structure of the skin cells. The study was carried on eighty male rats, weighing (180-200 gm). The rats divided into tow main groups each group divided to four subgroups:a) Daily Interval Exposure (8 hours/day): the groups was classified as one control and three experimental groups were exposed to constant UVA radiation dose for 10, 15and 25days respectively. A part of dorsal area of the rats was shaved. A slight change was observed.b) Continuous (Sustained) UV-Radiation Exposure (24hours/Day):The rats groups were divided, and classified as one control and three experimental groups were exposed to constant UVA radiation dose for 17, 27and 59days. A part of dorsal area of the rats was shaved and exposed to UVA Radiation. The concentrations of some trace elements (Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na, and Zn) in the skin sample were measured using Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The blood pictures evalution has been deduced using Mindary hematology analyzer BC-2800. Also, the histopathological changes of skin cells was studied by light microscope (LM) and the fine-structure of skin cell by the transmission electron microscope (TEM).
