The development of prelingual auditory perceptual skills for cochlear implanted children constitutes one of the fundamental building blocks for initial development of oral language. The aim of the present study is to track the development of auditory skills in Egyptian children fitted with cochlear implant during the first three years post implantation, in order to reach a better understanding of the pattern of their development. The sample of this study included 90 children (46 males and 44 females) Arabic speaking prelingual unilateral cochlear implanted children. Their cochlear age ranged from 1 month to 36 months post cochlear implantation. Their chronological age ranged from 3 years and 2 months to 6 years. They were divided according to their cochlear age into six groups, each group included 15 children: group I: 1 month to 6 months after cochlear implantation. group II: 7 months to 12 months after cochlear implantation. group III: 13 months to 18 months after cochlear implantation. group IV: 19 months to 24 months after cochlear implantation. group V: 25 months to 30 months after cochlear implantation. group VI: 31 months to 36 months after cochlear implantation. They were also divided according to their chronological age into two groups in which group A included 40 children and group B included 50 children: group A: 3 years to 4years, 5months. group B: 4 years, 6 months to 6 years. An Arabic auditory assessment tool was tailored during the period of the study that included six auditory skills domains; detection, identification, short term auditory memory, supra-segmental discrimination, segmental discrimination and linguistic auditory processing
