Abstract

Background: Obesity is a worldwide health problem. The link between development of microalbuminuria and obesity relates to endothelial dysfunction of kidney and increasing glomerular basement membrane by autocrine and paracrine pathway. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of obesity on development of microalbuminuria in obese Egyptian children and adolescents and to detect its relation to anthropometric parameters, pubertal stage and metabolic risk factors. Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional case-control study done in diabetes endocrine and metabolism pediatric unit (DEMPU), Cairo university children`s hospital. It included 50 obese children with (BMI {u2265}95th percentile for age and sex) and 20 non-obese age and sex matched children who were taken as controls. For each child, anthropometric measurements were done such as (weight, height, BMI, WC and hip circumference). Lipid profile, fasting blood glucose, urine analysis and Albumin to creatnine ratio (ACR) was measured, two sample were taken from each patient between each sample 3 months to confirm the diagnosis and 3 samples were taken in case of difference of first two sample. Results: The obese group showed significantly higher Alb/creatnine ratio than the control non obese group 33.419 vs 15.28
