Abstract

In this thesis a mathematical model has been developed to optimize the generation pattern to maximize the loading margin of a given power system. The presented model can deal with any load pattern to maximize loading margin which satisfies the thermal power limits of generation units and transmission lines. With respect to power system configuration, the mathematical model has been modified in order to determine the best site or sites at which shunt FACTS devices are to be installed with the optimum system of each FACTS device in order to maximize the loading margin of the power system. Mathematical models verification has been made using a five buses transmission system where the results obtained have verified the powerfulness of these models
