Abstract Cisplatin is an important anticancer drug which is used against various solid tumors, but its clinical utility is restricted by nephrotoxicity which is one of the major dose-limiting side effects. Combined cisplatin chemotherapy with natural antioxidants can reduce renal toxicity and enhance the antitumor efficacy of the drug. This study evaluates the protective effect of Gallic acid-grafted O-carboxymethyl chitosan (GA-g O-CMCS) on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Both biochemical findings and histo- and immuno-pathological showed the renoprotective potential of GA-g O-CMCS against cisplatin-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and renal dysfunction in rats. Further studies are needed for the clarification of its therapeutic potential. |
