Abstract This study was conducted at the Experimental Station and Nutrition Laboratory, Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Menoufia University (Shebin El-Kom) in order to replace Berseem hay by biologically treated rice straw in growing sheep rations. Results of the present study were: 1. The chemical composition indicated that untreated rice straw (URS) contains les DM (83.77%), CP (3.15%) and NFE (44.02%) than the treated rice straw with Trichoderma viride TV (being 85.95, 6.05 and 47.1%) and treated rice straw with Aspergillus fumigatus AF (being 85.03, 5.09 and 45.24%), respectively. 2. The untreated rice straw contains more CF being 35.45% than TV (31.55%) and AF (33.52%). Treating rice straw with Trichoderma viride increase CP content increased to 6.05% which was almost double the content of untreated rice straw. 3. Digestion coefficients of DM were 69.13, 69.81and 70.10% for the diets C, TV and AF, respectively. Digestion coefficients of CP were 72.32, 75.05, and 74.12 % for the same respective diets. Digestion coefficients of CF were 51.35, 55.65, and 54.55 %. The treatment improved CF digestibility by about 8%. 4. Digestibility of NDF were 50.55, 53.48 and 52.18% for the diets C, TV and AF, respectively. Apparent digestion coefficients of ADF were 52.20, 54.26 and 53.42 % for the same respective diets. 5. Nutritive value of diets containing the experimental rations was not different. All treatments had similar nutritive values, being 63.00, 63.83 and 63.08% for TDN and 10.11, 10.57and 10.39% for DCP, respectively. 6. The biological value of the dietary protein (BV) was calculated (NB/NI %) was higher for groups AF (35.66%) and TV (35.48%) and lowest for control group (30.00%). 7. Generally, all values were within the normal values of blood characteristics of sheep. |
