Abstract This study has been carried out on infants in Kofor Elbahita village, Dakahlia governorate, Egypt and compared the troubles between infants consumed cow milk only from the first day of life and infants consumed cow milk and breast milk. It aimed to minimize infant’s morbidity due to consuming cow milk. And also to determine the frequency of cow milk induced GIT troubles in the studied group, to find out the causes of cow milk administration in the studied infants and to measure the knowledge of the nursing mothers about the importance of breast feeding and the troubles of cow milk. The study was conducted from March 2012 to September 2012; eighty six infants were selected by simple random sampling. The studied infants were divided into 2 groups according to the type of feeding: 1. group consumed cow milk only from the first day of life comprised 50 infants. 2. group consumed breast milk for a period of time then completed feeding with cow milk comprised 36 infants A questionnaire containing socioeconomic data, mother’s knowledge about feeding, causes of cow milk feeding, medical examination and laboratory investigations including blood analysis for hemoglobin concentration and stool analysis was performed. |
