Abstract Child obesity and overweight are major health concerns across the globe remains vastly understudied phenomenon in many countries.Child obesity is a serious nutritional disorder which is associated with wide range of life threatening diseases as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and psychological problems as obese children have a problem in their own self-image which affect their physical activity and lead to more obesity.Prevalence of obesity increased among children to 43million child under age of 5 years worldwide. Breastfeeding is an important factor in determining child health outcomes .and an added benefit of breastfeeding is a potential to protect against overweight. There are many potential policies that could help to prevent obesity through the promotion of breastfeeding.While there are numerous studies about child obesity but body of research about the relationship between breastfeeding and overweight remains dismally small. There is a need for more studies.Previous studies incriminated incomplete and or insufficient breastfeeding as risk factors for child obesity but still there is controversy about this and there is a lack of Egyptian studies of it. |
