Abstract Background : CP-EBUS is a minimally invasive diagnostic technique that allows real-time sampling of mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes and central pulmonary lesions. Aim of the work comparing between Echo Tip Ultra HD-EBUS 22G needle and Echo Tip Pro Core HD-EBUS 22G needle in diagnosis of mediastinal lesions using CP - EBUS. Patients and methods: The study was performed on 35 patients who had been referred to the Chest department, Kasr El-Aini Hospital for clinical assessment. All the patients were subjected to ultrasound screening and tru-cut needle biopsy from enlarged distorted cervical or supraclavicular lymph nodes, TBNA using CP - EBUS guided Echo Tip Ultra HD 22G needle and Echo Tip Pro Core HD 22G needle in patients with negative ultrasound screening. Results: Echo Tip Ultra HD needle had diagnostic accuracy 40.9 % compared to Echo Tip ProCore HD needle which had diagnostic accuracy 31.8 % with no statistically significant difference between the 2 needles. Echo Tip Ultra 22 G HD needle had more representative cellularity (82% of cases) compared to Echo Tip Pro Core 22 G HD needle (45% of cases) with significant p-value between 2 needles (p- value = 0.001). Conclusion: Both needles can be used equally in sampling of mediastinal lesions |
