Abstract

Introduction: Non alcoholic fatty liver disease is the commonest chronic liver disease, it is defined as the presence of hepatic steatosis in the absence of other causes of hepatic fat accumulation, NAFLD includes simple steatosis, steatosis accompanied by varying degrees of inflammation and fibrosis [nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)] and can progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Grading of diffuse hepatic steatosis on ultrasound has been used to communicate to the clinician about the extent of fatty changes in the liver. Consistent and profound elevation of plasma PTX3 levels was noticed in NASH in comparison with non-NASH. The results suggest that plasma PTX3 levels may not only be laboratory marker that differentiate NASH from non-NASH, but marker of the severity of hepatic fibrosis in NASH. In our study we try to find correlation between pentraxin 3 level and grading of liver steatosis in US. Patients and methods: Cross sectional study enrolled 120 adult Egyptians from Kasr Alainy hospital (outpatient clinics) from July 2016 to july 2017, they were divided according to sonographic finding into two groups, control group (60 healthy individuals) and (NAFLD group 60 patients who were subdivided according to sonographic grading in to mild, moderate and severe
