Abstract

Two plastic house experiments were carried out during winter seasons of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 in a clay loam soil at the Agricultural Experiment Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University and Laboratory of Handling of Vegetable Crops Department, Horticulture Research Institute, Giza to study the effect of some bio-stimulants, i.e., seaweed extract (SWE) as foliar spray, humic acid (HA) and effective microorganisms (EM) as soil application alone or in combination as compared with untreated plants (spray with water only) as control on vegetative growth parameters, total yield and its components and pod quality of snap beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cv. Hama. It amid also to study the effect of the abovementioned treatments and packaging in micro-perforated polypropylene bags (micro-PPPb export package) or non-perforated polypropylene bags (non-PPPb) on quality and storability of snap beans during storage and shelf life. In addition, a study was conducted on the effect of cooling delay treatments for 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 hr. from harvest compared with non-cooled treatment (control) on quality attributes and storability of snap bean pods during storage and shelf life. Also, a study was conducted on the effect of some postharvest treatments [chitosan, ozonated water, and hydrogen peroxide as postharvest dipping; active and passive modified atmosphere packaging (MAP); and packaging in micro-PPPb] on quality attributes and storability of pods. Also, a study was conducted on the effect of some antioxidant agents [cysteine, ascorbic acid, citric acid or salicylic acid in combination with calcium lactate and calcium lactate alone] on quality and storability of fresh-cut snap beans during storage. The experimental design was complete randomized block design for the plastic house experiment but the storage experiments were in a complete randomized design with three replicates good appearance after 12 days of storage at 4o{u00BA}C
