Abstract

The increasing use of temporary nurses prompts the need to understanding to what degree nurses with this type of contract differ from permanent nurses as to the relation or commitment they establish with the organization they work for. The current study conducted to compare supplemental versus permanent nursing staffing in relation to organizational commitment. Descriptive co relational comparative design was utilized to achieve the aim of the current study. The study sample is convenient sample of all full and part time nurses who meet inclusion criteria in selected critical care units who choose to participate in the study. Organizational commitment questionnaire was utilized to collect the data of the current study. The result of current study show that the majority of permanent and supplemental nurses have moderate level of commitment toward their organization, and there is highly positive correlation among studied samples’ age regarding commitment level. The current study concluded that there was no statistical significance difference among permanent and temporary nurses regarding commitment level. The current study recommended that Nursing administrators should gradually increasing the pay and absorbing the temporary employees to permanent employment whenever suitable, should provide temporary nurses with job trainings to equip them with skills so that they could be more productive. Furthermore, nursing administrators should improve relationship between temporary and permanent nurses because of 2Job insecurity
