Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the marginal integrity and microleakage of onlays fabricated from four different materials: three CAD/CAM materials (feldspathic ceramic, hybrid ceramic and nano-composite blocks) and one heat press material (lithium disilicate ceramic IPS e.max). A total of thirty two human maxillary premolars were used in this study. Occluso-proximal cavities of standard dimensions were prepared from four types of materials. The teeth were divided into four main groups. Eight onlays for each type of the tested materials. Thirty two onlays have been fabricated either by CAD/CAM or heat press techniques. The groups were: group 1: Vita Mark ll ceramic material. group 2: Vita Enamic ceramic material. group 3: Lava Ultimate composite material. group 4: IPS e.max press ceramic material. Dual cure self-adhesive cement was used to lute the restorations on their corresponding cavity. Hydrofluoric acid gel, silane coupling agent and adhesive bonding agent were used for surface treatment of the restorations. Marginal integrity was evaluated before and after cementation of the onlays using stereomicroscope. Microleakage of each tested group was evaluated using dye penetration method and measured using stereomicroscope
