Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the fourth most common cause of death in the world. The assessment of daily living activities (DLA) is one of the best ways to evaluate the status of COPD patients. The aim of this study: was to evaluate the impact of home intervention program on the daily living activities for COPD patients. Research design: A quasi- experimental design. Sample: A convenience sample of 70 patients with COPD: setting: outpatient of chest clinic at El Abassyia Hospital and patients{u2019} home. Four tools used for data collection, I. interview questionnaire, II. assessment of patient{u2019}s difficulty in breathing during daily living activities, III a physical assessment sheet and IV (A)knowledge questionnaire& (B)an observation checklist for practice. The results: Revealed statistical significant difference of the total mean scores of DLA before home intervention program and after 3 months from it, also there was highly significant positive correlation between studied patient{u2019}s scores of knowledge and practice, and a negative correlation between difficulty of breathing during performance of DLA& practice (breathing exercises &proper position during dyspnea. The study concluded that: There was positive impact of home intervention patient{u2019}s outcomes with COPD as evident with improvement in performing the daily living activities the study recommended that government officials as well as nongovernmental organizations should encourage and support home-based intervention program especially for COPD patients
