Abstract Purpose: The goal of the current research is to study the effect of diabetes mellitus on CBUs volume and CD34+ cells count at cord blood units of infants of diabetic mothers that can affect the quality of cord blood units and banking efficiency. Materials and methods: This was a case control study Conducted on sample of 50 cord blood units of full term infants of diabetic mothers delivered at Mansoura University Hospitals during the study period. Full term healthy infants of healthy non diabetic mothers of equal number will be included as a control group. Results: There was statistically significant difference between the two studied groups (GDM and Control) as regard Cord blood unit volume, TNC count and CD34 count which are higher among GDM group. Conclusion: The current study demonstrated that Birth weight, Cord blood unit volume, TNC, CD34 count was significantly higher in the cord blood samples of neonates born to mothers with GDM compared to neonates born to non diabetic mothers. |
