Abstract

Background: Cardiac arrhythmias in children can present at any time from fetal life to adolescence and their recognition requires high index of suspicion. Methods: The study was conducted in pediatric arrhythmia clinic of Cairo university children’s hospital. The study is an observational study that included patients who presented from January 2010 to January 2017. The patients files were reviewed for age ,sex ,history ,cardiac examination ,ECG finding, 24 hours Holter finding , ECHO finding, medical treatment and EPS and ablation procedures. Results: 363 patients were included in this study .Males were 202 (55.8%) and 161(44.2%) were females .their age ranged from 0 day to 16 years with median age 3 years. Tachycardia (52.8%) was the most frequent first presentation. Postoperative arrhythmia was (6.3%). SVT attacks in ECG recording (46%) were the most frequent finding at the first presentation. Abnormal ECHO findings (63%) were the most frequent, TICM were (35.2%) of the cases of cardiomyopathy presented to the clinic and contractility were impaired in (62.5%) of cases of cardiomyopathy. SVT (36%) were the most common diagnosis. Amiodarone (62.1%) was the most common used antiarrhythmic drugbetween each type of arrhythmia in relation to heart contractility
