Abstract

Background: Infertility is the inability of a sexually active non- contracepting couple to achieve pregnancy for at least one year. Bisphenol A (BPA) and parabens are an endocrine disruptors with multiple undesirable metabolic effects. Bisphenol-A is a wide variety of consumer products, from baby bottles, plastic containers, and the resin lining of cans for food and beverages to household electronics and the lining of water pipes. Paraben is antimicrobial mixture which prevent the microbial activity in approximately 80% of personal care and drug products. Animal studies have reported that exposure to bisphenol A and parabens compounds might affect the male reproductive system and associated with a high risk of male sexual dysfunctions. However, the relation between this compounds and fertility in human is still controversial. Objective: The aim of our study is to evaluate possible association between bisphenol A & paraben and male infertility. Methods: Urine samples were obtained from 150 males. It was conducted at the outpatient clinic of Andrology, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, and it included (150) male subjects who were attending the andrology clinic who were age matched (20 -50 years old). The included subjects were divided into two groups; group A (cases, n=100) and group B (control, n=50). Urinary bisphenol A and paraben metabolites were measured with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC)
