Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in the economy especially in areas where density of population is extremely high. SMEs represent huge employment opportunities and income generation at low cost. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of SMEs financial performance in Egypt. Findings; The results of this study revealed that the following explanatory variables: Leverage ratio, current assets turnover, Size, age, current assets, and affiliated Industry (value added)” have statistical significant relationship with small and medium size Egyptian firm’s financial performance, which is measured by ROA and ROE. Originality: The value added of the research stems from the fact that Egypt represents a good ground for small and medium sized enterprises that have not been given enough attention as much as the large size ones. Practical implications: The stated findings of the study provide guidance for practitioners to take decisions in a way that enhance the small and medium size firms{u2019} financial performance in Egypt
