Abstract

Background & Objectives: The human life span has already been extended but with the undesirable result that more people are living extra years with disability and dementia today than 20 years ago.The increased share of elderly in the population and their vulnerability are reflected in the increase of geriatric deaths due to different causes and in different manners of deaths. The aim of this work is to statistically analyze different aspects of deaths in geriatric age at Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority. Subjects & Methods:94 elderly deaths above the age of 65 years who referred to Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority (EFMA) with suspicious deaths in the period from 1st May 2018 to October 2018. Cases were analyzed regarding demographic data, circumstances of death, past history of chronic diseases, cause of death, autopsy finding, pathology report,chemical and toxicological analysis and condition of death. Results: In our study, we found most cases referred to the morgue had homicidal manner of death with motivation of robbery and during fight. There were a considerable number had natural deaths but with suspicious circumstances needed autopsy. The accidental deaths included cases died from burn, drowning, road traffic accident, fall from height and intoxication by methanol
