Abstract This parallel, randomized control trial was conducted to compare the post operative pain after single visit endodontic treatment of necrotic single canalled teeth. Patients were equally allocated at random to receive one of the two procedures either laser activated irrigation or ultrasonic activated irrigation. Forty four patients with necrotic, single canalled teeth were endodontically treated in a single visit and follow up was done up to one week. Mechanical preparation was done by I-Race rotary system by #25, 30, 35, 40 4% then manually by k- file up to reaching MAF. According to experimental group, final irrigation was done as follows: laser group by 2ml 17%EDTA solution then 3 cycles of activation of 2ml 2.6% NaOCl by 980nmdiode laser but ultrasonic group done by ultrasonic file #15 at same time and cycles of activation. 30-gauge side vented needle was used for irrigation which inserted to 1 mml shorter than the working length . Pain intensity was assessed using Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) preoperatively and postoperatively after 24, 48, 72 hours and 7 days. All demographic data, clinical findings and NRS scores obtained from patients were statistically analyzed. All p-values are two-sided. P-values {u2264}0.05 were considered significant |
