Abstract

Objectives:to compare operative data and early postoperative outcomes of laparoscopic myomectomy using barbed sutures with those of laparoscopic myomectomy using conventional sutures. Design: Randomized clinical trial. Setting: Obstetrics and Gynecology hospital, Cairo university , Egypt. Patients:54 patients with (1-3) symptomatic myomas (max. diameter{u2264} 10cm) were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to thebarbed suture group(n=27) or the conventional suture group(n=27). Interventions:The patients underwent LM and the myoma bed was sutured either with barbed suture (V-Loc or stratafix) or conventional suture (Vicryl). Measurements and Main Results: Suturing time of the myoma bed wassignificantly shorter in the barbed suture group(14.15±5.08versus 19.41±7minutes ; p =0. 002).There was no statistically significant difference in the meanoperative time in both groups (65.67±18.07versus 71.15±21.5minutes; p =0.315).There was statistically significant difference in the meanblood loss in both groups (209.63±110.65versus 329.44±224.96 ml; p =0.017).No intra or early post operative complicationswere reported in either groups
