Abstract

The present study was carried out during the two successive growing seasons 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 at Giza and Kom Ombo Agricultural Research Stations, Agricultural Research Center. The objectives were to study the genetic parameters, genotype x environment interaction, identify the best combination under heat stress conditions and the effect of heat stress on grain yield and its components. A half-diallel cross was made between eight bread wheat cultivars in the first season at El-Giza Research Station to obtain 28 F1 hybrids. In the second season the eight parents and their F1 crosses were grown in Kom-Ombo (Aswan) and El-Giza Research Stations in two sowing dates, i.e., normal sowing date on 15th November (N) and heat stress or late sowing date on 15th December (H). Analysis of variance showed highly significant mean squares due to the genotypes at the two-sowing dates for all the studied characters. Analysis of variance indicated highly significant effects of heat stress treatment on all studied characters, shown that the two sowing dates in the two locations behaved differently for these traits. Moreover, mean squares due to genotypes were highly significant for most characters, providing evidence for presence of large amount of genetic variability, thus considered adequate for further biometrical assessment
