Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented damage and socio-economic consequences. Public knowledge, attitude, and commitment to preventive measures is critical to preventing the disease. The Quality of Life (QOL), mental health and financial security has been greatly affected during the pandemic. Aim of study : The aim of this study was to evaluate public knowledge and perceptions about COVID-19 disease and its predictors, to evaluate public QOL and mental distress during COVID-19 pandemic among public and their determinants. Subjects and methods : This study is a community-based cross-sectional household survey including 500 adult Egyptians, both males and females, residing in Beni Ebid City from August 2020 to March 2021. Data collection included demographic data, questionnaire about KABP towards COVID-19. Questionnaire assessing life pattern disruption during COVID-19 pandemic including the impact on QOL, mental health and economic impact of the pandemic. Results : The results revealed that 27% of the participants had poor knowledge of COVID-19, while 36% of the study participants had negative attitudes towards COVID-19. poor practices were detected among 43% of the participants. Most of the participants (76.8% and 76%) also feel that their personal safety is at risk and believe that their quality of life is lower than before as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The majority of study participants (79.8%) also feel apprehensive as a result of the pandemic. Many of the participants 74% and 68.6% also suffered from household stress and financial burdens. About half of the participants experienced a decrease in their income. The decrease in income mainly affected meat consumption as it decreased in 31.4% of the participants. However, consumption of medical tools, disinfectants and internet bills increased in 75% and 56.8% of the participants. Conclusion : The general public lacks good practice of preventive behaviors for COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic has a significant impact on all life aspects. A well-prepared preparedness plan for future epidemic events must be developed. |
