Abstract

This study revealed a wide range of multiple antibiotic-resistance profiles of MRSA isolated from different sources. MRSA was found in 8.3% of the samples tested. MRSA was most prevalent in raw milk (13.3%), followed by chicken (12%), fish (9.2%), cheese (5%), and beef (4.2%). These findings suggest that antibiotic-resistant S. aureus strains are not just nosocomial, but also prevalent in food. Although our investigation is confined to the presence of S. aureus in various meals, the items examined are often consumed by locals in this area. As a consequence, we believe that the fact that resistance rates against tested antibiotics were found to be high among the isolates, as well as the presence of multidrug-resistant S. aureus strains, is a significant issue that should be highlighted in terms of public health and food safety. Thus, there is a need for continuous and better control of sources of food contamination and the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria since the pathogenic potential of these strains cannot be ignored.
