Abstract Egypt’s construction industry has completed a large number of projects in recent years. Due to the size and complexity of many of these projects, contractors have turned to subcontracting to share tasks and control project risks. Subcontracting in the building projects has also been activated by the Egyptian government, as it plays an important role in strengthening the economy’s viability. Subcontracting, rather than enhancing project success, might actually exacerbate project failure. Though there are numerous reasons that lead to subcontracting issues, a troubled relationship between primary contractors and sub - contractors is a well-known aspect that has a negative impact on building projects. One of the leading factors of project schedule and cost budget overrun is outsourcing jobs. However, the issues that arise as a result of subcontracting have not been properly addressed. from one project to the other, the relationship between the major contractors and their subcontractors varies. Their tasks and duties are sometimes misunderstood. As a result, the construction industry has seen a variety of issues and confrontations between principal contractors and their subcontractors. The goal of the study was to look into the connection between primary contractors and subcontractors in the Egyptian construction projects and offer a framework for improving it. The research also discussed the consequences of a strained relationship between Egypt’s principal contractors and subcontractors. Literature reviews and questionnaire surveys were employed to acquire information. The ranking of the elements was determined using the importance index (RII). A methodology was devised to solve difficulties between the primary contractor and the subcontractor based on the study’s findings. Payment issues, poor communication, and pricing escalations all contributed to interface issues. The study discovered that increased communication between both the parties and availability of funds were required to alleviate interface issues. Many initiatives were suggested in the study to strengthen relationships between primary contractors and subcontractors. The contractor, for example, should choose the subcontractor based on his experience and ability. To maintain the highest quality of work, the subcontractor should try his utmost to complete the work on time and comply to all contract stipulations.
