Abstract

This study aims mainly to isolate of some endophytic fungi from wild plants (Reichardia tingitana) growing in different habitats and use fungal and plant extracts as biomedicine in the treatment of human pathogenic bacteria. Through this study of the endophytic fungi of the Reichardia tingitana samples, which were collected from their different natural environments in Egypt ; eleven strains of endophytic fungi were identified, as the results of the morphological and microscopic examines showed for these strains. Three endophytic fungi were selected to investigate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of them. They were (Alternaria brassicicola, Fusarium semitectum and Penicillium notatum). This study indicated that fungal endophytes could be used as sustainable sources of antimicrobials as it has good inhibitory activity against four gram negative bacteria; Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi, and four-gram positive bacteria ; Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae as well as fungal strain Candida albicans. The phytochemical analysis of Reichardia tingitana samples growing naturally in two heterogeneous habitats in Egypt (coastal and inland desert) disclosed that MeOH extracts of these species are richer in bioactive compounds such as tannins and phenolics composition. In this work, the cytotoxic activities of the prepared plant samples extracts were evaluated using an MTT assay. The samples were tested in vitro against two tumor cells, i.e., HepG-2, and PC3 cell lines. Doxorubicin was selected as a reference drug.
