Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of plasma micro- RNA-21 level as a noninvasive marker for hepatocellular carcinoma, compare the diagnostic accuracy of serum micro-RNA-21 to alpa fetoprotein, and evaluate micro-RNA-21 and AFP to improve diagnostic power and better detection of HCC at early stage.
This study includes 60 patients of chronic Hepatitis C virus (HCV) attending to tropical department of Cardiac and Digestive Center, and 30 apparently individuals as control group during period from May 2018 to january 2019. We divided patients with HCV into two groups: group (1) HCV with liver cirrhosis (LC) and group (2) HCV with HCC.
It was shown in this study that there was a significant difference as regard hemoglobin and platelet level when compare the 3 studied groupslwith best data among controls and worst among HCC group. Asregard to albumin results it was shown that it is significant difference when compare 3 studied group, when compare control group and HCC and comparison LC group and HCC group; and we found also significant differences regarding bilirubin level when compare the 3 studied groups, and when compare control group and HCC group. ALT and AST were significantly higher among HCC and LC groups compared to controls. Prothrombin time and INR also showed significant differences among the three groups.
In current study, it was showing that there was high significant difference when compare MicroRNA-21level in the 3 studied groups, being lowest among the control group, higher among the LC group and highest among HCC group; all comparisons showed highly significant differences.
As regard to liver it was found in our study that it appear coarse and irregular in 100% of LC group and Hepatic Focal Lesion (HFL) in 90% of HCC group while liver appear homogenous in 70% of control group and mild bright in 30% of them. As regard spleen and the presence of ascites there were no significant differences 3 among the studied groups.
