Abstract

The Entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria spp. was isolated from house flies collected from different localities in various Egyptian Governorates. The flies were trapped from garbage piles, dairy and meat production processes on cattle farms and fowl farms. This study was focused on Beauveria spp. as entomopathogens were widely used in recent decades as a biological control of the population of house flies, to avoid the hazardous effects of insecticides on humans, animals, and natural eco-systems. Experimental laboratory trials were carried out using immersion of the larvae on a serial dilution of Beauveria spores (10⁵ to10¹{u⁰⁰B⁰}) then reared different stages of the collected house flies. The infected larvae, pupae and adults were examined macroscopically for visible growth of fungi showing a change in color. There is a direct relation between increase fungal concentration and increase the rate of mortality in different Musca domestica (M. domestica) stage reaching up to 100%.The infected larvae, pupae and adults were examined macroscopically for visible growth of fungi, further studies using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and histopathological methods, to investigate the destructive impact of the fungus on the external and internal structures. The study revealed adhesion growth and propagation of the conidia on the cuticle of all stages, including compound eyes, setae of the legs, thorax, wings and abdomen of the adults. Also the result recorded penetration and propagation of the conidia in the internal tissues of larvae causing lysis of the fat cells and lysis of the thoracic muscles of the adults. Thus the result showed that Beauveria bassiana (B. bassiana)considered one of the important biological control agentsfor the housefly
