Abstract

Background:Non-hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) encompass a heterogeneous group of cancers with a wide range of histological appearances and clinical features at presentation. Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are considered to have significant impacts on susceptibility to the development of cancer. The miR-146a & miR-196a2 polymorphisms have been reported to be associated with the risk of cancer diseases. Objective: to investigate the relation between miR-146a and miR-196a2 polymorphisms and risk as well as prognosis of B -cell NHL. Methods:The genotyping of miR-146a (rs2910164) and miR-196a2 (rs11614913) polymorphisms were detected by polymerase chain reaction{u2013}restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR{u2013}RFLP) for 75 B-NHL patients and 100 healthy control. Results: The study revealed that there was no significant association between miR-146a and miR-196a2 polymorphisms and risk of B-NHL. Analysis of the association between this polymorphism and the survival of B-NHL patients showed that miR-146a (GC and CC) genotypes have longer Disease Free Survival (DFS) compared with GG genotype (p=0.044).Regarding miR-196a2 polymorphism, patients having (CT and TT) genotypes have longer DFS compared with those having CC genotype (p=0.009). Conclusion:miR-146a and miR-196a2 genetic polymorphisms might be considered as a prognostic marker in B-NHL in Egyptians
