Abstract The study area is El Mansoura area, approximately 130 km NNE of Cairo, onshore the Nile Delta, Egypt, that considered one of the most promising areas for gas and oil. Around 58 TCf of gas reserves have been discovered until now. The present thesis focuses on studying the seismic reservoir characterization of the Upper Miocene-Pliocene sequences, using the seismic attributes, the AVO analysis. This is done through delineating the seismic and structural features in the area, identifying the different reservoir levels, defining seismic sequence stratigraphy and marking out the channel / reservoir boundary of the Upper Miocene-Pliocene Formations. The study results led to identifying the source kitchen area, migration fairway and understanding the reservoir distribution. Then, how to differentiate between the similar amplitude responses (gas-bearing and dry sands) by understanding the relation between the near- and far-offset traces from the CDP gathers |
