Abstract

Background: Flow-diverter devices are new-generation stents placed in the parent artery at the level of the aneurysm neck to disrupt the intra-aneurysmal flow, providing significant effects with potential changes in transmural pressure gradient. They progressively create intra-aneurysmal thrombosis, offering good support for the development of a neointima. Although the introduction of this device is relatively recent, experience is rapidly increasing and large studies have been reported. However, choice of the best endovascular procedure and indications for the use of Flow
diverter stents are still a matter of debate and deserve to be discussed.
Aim of the Work: To assess safety and efficacy of flow diverter stents in treatment of cerebral aneurysms.
Patients and Methods: A randomized prospective single center study carried out during the period from March 2020 to September 2021 at the Interventional Neurology Unit of Ain Shams University Hospital after obtaining an informed consent. The Study was approved by the ethical committee of the hospital. The patients had been recruited from inpatient hospital admission and outpatient clinics. The study recruited 40 patients with the following inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: The flow diverter stent is a safe and effective in treatment of complex intracranial aneurysms, and provides an evidence of high procedural success and complete occlusion, with low morbidity, mortality, and recurrence rates.
Conclusion: We can conclude that, flow diverter stenting is safe and effective technique in treatment of intracranial aneurysms with low morbidity and mortality rates.
