Abstract This work has been carried out to investigate the process of extraction of uranium and rare earth elements from wadi deposits at Atmur El-Kibeish area. Firstly; this work was conducted by applying different leaching conditions to obtain pregnant leach liquor containing the strategic elements uranium and rare earth elements. Several series of leaching experiments have also been oriented to study the leaching kinetics. It was thus revealed that the leaching kinetics of both uranium and rare earth elements are controlled by diffusion through the product layer. from the pregnant leach liquor by solvent extraction method using Cyanex 272 uranium was extracted. Thus the relevant factors obtained for 97% uranium extraction were 0.01 mole/L Cyanex 272 diluted by kerosene, 15 minutes contact time, and 1/1 organic/aqueous ratio. Then the scrubbing of the loaded solvent was conducted by 1M H₂SO₄ followed by uranium stripping using 3 M H₂SO₄, contact time of 10 min. and 1/2 organic/aqueous ratio.Rare earth elements precipitated as oxalate using 10% oxalic acid |
