Abstract

Aim of the work: In our study we will assess the additive role of preoperative contrast enhanced mammography in breast cancer patients and its impact on management Patients and methods: Our study was prospectively carried on 50 female patients and conducted at female imaging unit of Radiology Department of the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. Their ages ranged from 40 to 60 years, from February 2020 to February 2021.Mammographic examination was performed Essential, GE healthcare Full Field Digital Mammography machine that was upgraded to provide CESM All female patients visiting the hospital with clinical diagnosis of breast cancer was included in the study.The findings were evaluated independently on both DM and CESM.The majority of cases underwent to surgical intervention and results compared with of postoperative pathology Results: In total, 50 women were enrolled in the study; the mean age of this study population is 45 years. Among the studied cases only one lesion of benign lesion pathology encountered 1/50 (4.5%), the remaining lesions were of malignant lesions, only one malignant lesion of a mixed IDC and ILC (4.5%), 25/50 lesions of ILC (50%) and 23/50 lesions of IDC (40%).The majority of patients underwent to MRM 47/50. while 3/50 underwent to CBS.The overall sensitivity of the CESM was (96 %) in this study in comparison to mammographic sensitivity (72 %) while the specificity was (96 %) and (76 %) respectively
