Abstract

Analysis of multicomponent pharmaceutical formulations is considered an important issue and a difficult challenge to the analyst. This work is concerned to quantitatively determine some heterocyclic pharmaceutical compounds (triproldine HCl and codeine phosphate) with different pharmacological actions in their mixtures namely, pseudoephedrine HCl and triproldine HCl in their binary mixture and with guaifenesin in their ternary pharmaceutical formulation as well as ibuprofen and codeine phosphate in their pure powder and their pharmaceutical formulations without interference from the excipients. In this study; different analytical approaches were adopted, namely, spectrophotometric technique including derivative, first derivative ratio and difference first derivative ratio, chromatographic techniques including TLC-densitometric and HPLC methods in addition to ion selective electrode technique to determine the previously mentioned compounds in their pure powder form or combined pharmaceutical formulations.Several experimental conditions were studied till reaching the optimum conditions. Since dissolution testing plays an important role in the pharmaceutical industry to evaluate the effectiveness of drug delivery systems such as tablets and capsules via providing the release pattern of the drug. Therefore, the proposed spectrophotometric and HPLC methods were applied to monitor the release of pseudoephedrine HCl and triproldine HCl in their dissolution medium from their tablet form. On the other hand, ISE technique was also successfully applied to determine the aforementioned drugsin their different pharmaceutical formulations without matrix interference
