Abstract Substance abuse is one of the dangerous problems that threaten the adolescents in Egypt.The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of health education program about substance abuse on knowledge and attitude of adolescent nursing students. Design: quasi-experimental research.Sample: A purposive sample of 82 first year adolescent nursing students in Technical Institute of Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Cairo University.Two tools were used for data collection; structured knowledge questionnaire and Attitude scale.The results showed the students{u2019} total knowledge scores increased in post (85.4%) and follow up tests (73.2%) compared to the pretest (36.6%). Students{u2019} total attitude scores increased in post and follow up tests compared to the pretest. A highly statistically significant positive correlation between students{u2019} total knowledge scores and total attitude score in follow up test (P>0.001). The study concluded that there were improvements in the knowledge and attitude scores related to substance abuse among adolescent nursing students after the program implementation with significant positive correlation between them. The study recommended conducting periodic educational programs for college students to raise their awareness about substance abuse prevention |
