Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the quantitative analysis of some drugs that are used to relieve pain, namely;flavoxate HCl, propyphenazone, caffeine and ergotamine tartrate. Additionally, the analytical study has been performed for 3-methylflavone-8-carboxylic acid (flavoxate HCl impurity and main metabolite), phenazone (propyphenazone impurity) and theophylline (caffeine impurity). The aim of this work is to develop different analytical methods which are characterized by simplicity, accuracy and appropriate degree of greenness and sensitivity. The studied drugs are determined in their pure powders, in their pharmaceutical dosage form and in some biological fluids. This thesis is divided intofive parts in addition to the references and summaries in Arabic and English. The five parts are: Part I: General Introduction. Part II: Simultaneous Determination of a Quaternary Mixture of Flavoxate HCl, Propyphenazone and Two of their Official Impurities; 3-Methylflavone-8-Carboxylic Acid and Phenazone by chromatographic and Chemometric Methods Part III: Ion selective Electrode Potentiometric Methods for the Determination of Flavoxate HCl and its Main Metabolite; 3-Methylflavone-8-Carboxylic Acid. Part IV: chromatographic Methods for the Simultaneous Determination of a Five-Component Mixture of Propyphenazone, Caffeine, Ergotamine Tartrate, Propyphenazone Impurity; Phenazone and Caffeine Impurity ; Theophylline. Part V: General Conclusion and Greenness Assessment of the Proposed Methods. The thesis contains 53 tables, 56 figures and 267 references
