Abstract The summing up of results for both cut-flowers species understudied Gerbera jamsonii cv.‛Rosalin and Rosa sp. cv. ‛Black magic՚ were put in tables, for the sake of simplicity and better clarity (please refer to Tables 38, 39, 40 and 41 for details). Noticeably, the summary of results was restricted only to results persistent and confirmed in both seasons. It is our belief and understanding that these results are the only ones that could be counted upon and deserve to be mentioned as conclusions and therefore may be recommended. 6.2. Conclusions ■ To extend vase life of gerbera (Gerbera jamsonii) cv. ‘Rosalin’ cut flowers it is advised to add to the preservative vase solution clove oil at the rate of 25 mg/l. ■ To extend vase life of rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. ‘Black magic’ cut flowers it is favored to add to the preservative vase solution thyme oil at the rate of 50 mg/l. ■ To reduce neck bending of gerbera (Gerbera jamsonii) cv. ‘Rosalin’ cut flowers it is advocated to add clove oil at the rate of 25mg/l. ■ To retain good appearance and improve remaining quality traits (vase life, uptake of vase solution, flower fresh weight, total chlorophyll and anthocyanin) of cut flowers of gerbera (Gerbera jamsonii) cv. ‘Rosalin’, it is still advised –as above– to add clove oil at the rate of 25 mg/l. When combined with nano silver at 5 mg/l it extends vase life for an extra two days besides reducing neck bending and improving flower fresh weight. ■ To retain good appearance of rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. ‘Black magic’ cut flowers and improve remaining quality traits (uptake of vase solution, flower fresh weight, total chlorophyll and anthocyanin), it is still favoured –as above– to add thyme oil at 50 mg/l. ■ Alternatively, nano silver particles when added to the vase solution at the rate of 5 mg/l it extended vase life of gerbera (Gerbera jamsonii) cv.‘Rosalin’ cut flowers but to a lower degree than clove oil at 25 mg/l by two days and also improved their uptake of vase solution. Whereas, when it was added to the rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. ‘Black magic’ cut flowers it extended vase life but to a lesser degree than thyme oil at 50 mg/l by three days and also increased colour pigments (total chlorophyll, anthocyanin and carotenoids). ■ Finally, as a more safe and eco-friendly application, in order to extend vase life and upgrade quality traits of cut flowers of gerbera (Gerbera jamsonii) cv.‘Rosalin and rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. ‘Black magic’ it could be recommended generally to add clove oil at 25 mg/l and thyme oil at 50 mg/l, in respect order to the preservative vase solutions. |
