Abstract

Introduction: Bronchial asthma and its prevalence in Egypt and worldwide, relationship between bronchial asthma and chemokine receptor 3 gene polymorphism. The aim of work: Estimate the prevalence of bronchial asthma and its related risk factors among school aged children in Sammanoud city through a cross sectional study. Also, a trial to evaluate a possible association between chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3) gene polymorphism and different clinical asthma phenotypes (allergic march phenotype, cough asthma phenotype and wheeze asthma phenotype) through a case control study. Research Plan: Cross sectional study using modified form of ISSAC questionnaire, another case control study to evaluate association of CCR3T51C gene polymorphism and bronchial asthma. Results: Prevalence of bronchial asthma in Sammnoud City was found to be 9% in year 2020-2021and also, there was no significant association found between chemokine receptor 3 gene polymorphism and different clinical phenotypes of bronchial asthma. However, TT genotype was found to be more frequent in asthmatic children than CC and CT genotypes. Conclusion: Prevalence of bronchial asthma in Sammnoud City is increasing due to risk factors that is affecting disease development. We could not find any association between chemokine receptor 3 polymorphism among Egyptian children. However, TT genotype was found to be more frequent in asthmatic children than CC and CT genotypes.
