Abstract

eriodontitis can be defined as an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by specific micro-organisms or a group of specific micro-organisms, resulting in progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation, recession, or both. In chronic periodontal disease, biologically active substances within bacterial plaque induce a local inflammatory response in the gingival soft tissues and periodontium.
The present study aimed to assess the effect of N-HA, HA and HA combined with platelet-rich plasma graft in treatment of intrabony periodontal defect to show the improvement in clinical and radiographic parameters.
Materials and Methods: This study conducted on thirty six patients with advanced chronic periodontitis, having clinically similar interproximal advanced osseous lesions coming to the Outpatient Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University. Following initial phase of periodontal therapy and re-evaluation, patients were classified randomly into three equal groups: group I: Consisted of 12 patients, were treated with full thickness mucoperiosteal flap surgical technique and Nano-Hydroxyapatite graft. group II: Consisted of 12 patients, were treated with full thickness mucoperiosteal flap surgical technique and Hydroxyapatite graft. group III: Consisted of 12 patients, were treated with full thickness mucoperiosteal flap surgical technique and Hydroxyapatite combined with platelet-rich plasma graft.
Results: Nano-hydroxyapatite bone graft, hydroxyl apatite bone graft and hydroxyapatite bone graft with platelet-rich plasma showed significant decrease in pocket depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index, gingival index, bone height and bone density from baseline time to 6 months without significant difference between them.
