Abstract

Two field trials were conducted during 2017 and 2018 seasons to evaluate the main and interaction effects of humic acid soil incorporation at different rates (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg fed-1,), and granules (GR) zinc oxide and nanoparticles (NP) zinc oxide foliar application (0, 50 and 100 ppm) on the morphological features, fruits yield and its components, leaf chemical constituents and fruits quality of tomato hybrid SV8320. Increasing humic acid soil incorporation rate from zero to 75 Kg fed-1 significantly and progressively, enhanced tomato plant growth and productivity as well as nutrient uptake. However, differences between humic acid soil incorporation rates at 50 or 75 kg fed-1 were not significant. Similarly, foliar application of granules (GR) zinc oxide and nanoparticles (NP) zinc oxide at various concentrations significantly had a positive effects on tomato plant growth and productivity as well as nutrient uptake when compared to the control. However, nanoparticles (NP) zinc oxide foliar application at 100 ppm was significantly more effective. The comparisons among various treatment combinations exhibited that, the combined treatment of both humic acid soil incorporation at 50 Kg fed-1 and nanoparticles (NP) zinc oxide foliar application at 100 ppm enhanced plant growth and productivity as well as nutrient uptake. Whereas, untreated plants (0 Kg fed-1 humic acid and + no zinc oxide foliar application) displayed the lowest mean values of the above mentioned characteristics. In conclusion, the integrated application of humic acid soil addition and zinc oxide nanoparticles (NP) foliar application may provide an effective strategy to enhance tomato plant growth and productivity as well as fruit quality through enhancing photosynthetic efficiency and nutrient uptake.
