Abstract
The current study was performed on eight apparently healthy native breed of goats of both sexes, aging from one to two years old. These goats were used as follow: two were dissected for topographical examination of the heart. Two were injected by gum milk (Latex 60%) colored red and blue via the common carotid artery and lingofacial vein respectively. Two were subjected for plain radiography and X-ray with contrast media (Barium sulfate). One was used for echocardiography. One was subjected to computed tomography followed by frozen cross-section technique.
In addition to 50 hearts with associated lungs of apparent healthy goats were dissected for describing the heart morphology, blood supply, and venous drainage.
The heart of goat was a hollow muscular cone shaped with slightly pointed apex which lies between the 3rd and the 6th ribs in the thoracic cavity. It was fixed by the sternopericardial ligament. The pericardium completely covered the heart
The heart had two surfaces; the left or auricular surface and the right or atrial surface. It had two borders; the cranial and caudal borders. It had also base and apex. The blood vessels were originated from the base.
