Abstract

SUMMARY Amblyopia is defined as the reduction of best-corrected visual acuity of one or both eyes that cannot be attributed exclusively to a structural abnormality of the eye. Amblyopia develops during childhood and results in the interruption of normal cortical visual pathway development. It is clinically defined as a difference in best-corrected visual acuity of 2 or more lines of acuity between the eyes. Herein, we tried to investigate macular thickness in patient with unilateral amblyopia with spectral-domain OCT and the OCT changes occurring in the retina of amblyopic eye in comparison to normal eye. This study included 30 cases diagnosed with amblyopia using the better eye as a control which will be selected from the outpatient clinic of ophthalmology department of Tanta University Hospital and will be followed monthly for 6 month and OCT will be performed after 6 month. Regarding central macular thickness (CMT), we found no statistically significant difference before and after patching. As regards Average Macular Thickness (AMT), we found there was statistically significant difference before and after patching.
