Abstract

Summary Exotropia is a type of eye misalignment. About 90 % of all exodeviations are intermittent exotropia . Intermittent exotropia is controlled by fusional convergence when it spontaneously breaks down exotropia is manifested .other types of exotropia include, convergence insffeciency which is the inability to maintain convergence at near objects ,consecutive exotropia develops due to over correction of surgical treatment of esotropia, mechanical exotropia is due to restrictive condition of extra ocular muscle like myasthenia graves and sensory exotropia it occurs when vision is lost in one eye , the eye drifts out as in cases of high refractive error . Management options are non-surgical as correction of refractive error and surgical ,here we discussed two surgical techniques ; the conventional recession and the hang back recession . The aim of the study is to evaluate result of both techniques in management of exotropia and investigate the longitudinal change in the lateral rectus muscle insertion after 1.5 month postoperative by AS-OCT imaging of the muscle new insertion site The study included 40 eyes with exotropia who met with the inclusion criteria. All cases underwent complete ophthalmological and strabismus examination before and after surgical treatment and compeleted six months follow up at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months.
