Rumors are considered one of the most dangerous methods of demolishing societies, and their danger is due to the fact that the recipients of rumors and those who help in spreading them are not enemies, but are usually good citizens whose minds were underestimated by rumors, and they were attracted to them to the extent that they became tools for repeating and spreading rumors without them realizing that they are prey for the purposes of destroying society , Therefore, awareness must be developed among members of society in general and youth in particular, because it may lead to panic and lose the confidence of members of society in matters related to their lives. Hence, confronting rumors and confronting them has become an urgent reality and a necessity of national security for society and stability for individuals and society , More than one method can be followed to respond to and confront rumors, including the method of evidence, the method of referring to real sources, and the method of persuasion.
Second: The importance of the study:
The phenomenon of rumors is one of the obstacles to development that must be confronted and assistance provided by developing the capabilities of young people within the community through the profession of social work in general and the way of serving the community in particular.
1. This study may enrich the theoretical framework of the way of working with groups by focusing on the techniques of skills training and capacity development.
2. The scarcity of the studies that used the techniques of skills training from the perspective of group social work, especially with the youth category, within the limits of the researcher’s knowledge.
Third: Objectives of the study:
The main objective of the study is determined by:
”Testing the effectiveness of practicing skills training techniques in the social group work to develop the youth’s abilities to use methods of confronting rumors”:
And from this main objective the emerges following sub-objectives:
1. To test the effectiveness of practicing skills training techniques in the social group work to develop the youth’s abilities to use the evidence method to confront rumors.
2. Testing the effectiveness of practicing skills training techniques in the social group work to develop the youth’s abilities to use the method of referring to real sources to confront rumors.
3. To test the effectiveness of practicing skills training techniques in the social group work to develop the youth’s abilities to use the method of persuasion to confront rumors.
Fourth: the Study hypotheses:
The main hypothesis of this study is determined by: ”There are substantial, statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two measurements, the pre and post measurements of the experimental group cases with regard to the dimensions of developing youth’s abilities to use methods of confronting rumors in favor of the post-measurement”:
And from this main hypothesis emerge, the following sub-hypotheses:
1. There are substantial, statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two measurements, the pre and post measurements of the experimental group cases with regard to the dimension of developing the youth’s abilities to use the evidence method to confront rumors in favor of the post measurement.
2. There are significant statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two measurements, tribal and posterior for the experimental group cases with regard to the dimension of developing the youth’s abilities to use the method of referring to real sources to confront rumors in favor of the dimensional measurement.
3. There are significant statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two measurements, the pre and post measurements of the experimental group cases with regard to the dimension of developing the youth’s abilities to use the persuasion method to confront rumors in favor of the dimensional measurement.
Fifth: Concepts of the study
The current study will address the concept of:
1. Practice.
2. The techniques.
3. Skills training.
4. Capacity development.
5. Methods of facing rumors.
Sixth: Methodological procedures of the study:
1. Type of study:
quasi-experimental study
2. The method used:
Experimental method using one experimental group.
3. Study tools:
This study relied on the following tools
A. A measure of youth development to use methods of confronting rumors
B. Periodic reports after each meeting.
C. Individual reports of group members.
Seventh: Fields of Study:
A. Spatial domain: Helmeyet Al-Zaytoun Youth Center in Cairo.
B. The human field: the human field is determined by a deliberate sample of (15) youth who meet the conditions for selecting the sample
C. Time domain : The time range of this study is determined in the period of conducting the experiment, which lasted three months, starting from 7-3-2021 to 13-6-2021.
Eighth: Study results:
The results of the study are summarized in the following:-
1- The results of the study proved the validity of the first sub-hypothesis, as there were statistically significant differences for the first dimension (evidence method) in favor of the post-measurement of the experimental group, and this was evident in the results of the statistical differences for the two measurements before and after the experimental group in this dimension.
2- The results of the study proved the validity of the second sub-hypothesis, as there were statistically significant differences for the second dimension (the method of referencing the real sources) in favor of the post-measurement of the experimental group, and this was evident in the results of the statistical differences for the two measurements, tribal and remote, of the experimental group in this dimension.
3- The results of the study proved the validity of the third sub-hypothesis, as there were statistically significant differences for the third dimension (persuasion method) in favor of the post-measurement of the experimental group, and this was evident in the results of the statistical differences of the two measurements before and after the experimental group in this dimension.
4- The results of the study proved the validity of the main hypothesis of the study, as there were statistically significant differences for the scale as a whole in favor of the dimensional measurement of the experimental group, and this was evident in the results of the statistical differences for the two measurements before and after the experimental group.
