Abstract This work deals with the improvement of the performance of optical fiber amplifiers, which represent a major component in optical communication systems. The main interest of the study is devoted to demonstrate a computational method for calculating the effect of macro-bending of the fiber on the performance of one type of dopant material, erbium, with different eight host materials which are: almino-germanosilicate, aluminum-oxide (Al2O3), tellurite, oxyfluoride silicate, fluoride phosphate, bismuth, lithium niobate and sodium niobium phosphate glass fiber amplifier, considering a proper concentration of the dopant ion. The performance parameters that are investigated are the signal wavelength, pump power, amplifier length and the erbium concentration of the fiber at different bending radii and without bend, which improve the gain and noise figure of the amplifier through controlling these parameters. |
