Abstract
This study was conducted aiming to answer the two stated aims a- assess the knowledge among patients with congestive heart failure, b- evaluate the effect of an educational program on the patients with congestive heart failure admitted to selected hospitals in Port Said City upon discharge. To achieve this aim, 108 adult patients were recruited conveniently from medical wards in governmental and health insurance hospitals in Port Said. Tools were used, the socio-demographic, patient’s clinical data and informational needs regarding patients in the study and control groups. Most patients with congestive heart failure have reported total needs to information related to congestive heart failure. After the educational program the results showed a positive statistically significant difference in the study group than control group in household activity, self care, decrease load of work by others, sporting activity, take rest during work and regular vacation, know hazards of smoking, not excessive salt and fat in the diet, and positive aspect of the life. Negative statistically significant difference in the study group in the patient weighting control and side effects of medication. Highly statistically significant difference in the study group and control group in the affect of illness on their work, and increased blood sugar and cholesterol.
