English summary
First: Issues with the study:
Drug addiction is one of the problems that occupies a prominent place in the interests of local and international public opinion, and the danger of this issue lies in the fact that it can affects any society, especially young people. Substance abuse is known to significantly impact mental well-being, including cognitive activity and effects the behavioral aspects of young people, which impedes the efforts of comprehensive development in society, drug addiction is also known for its ability to affect, weaken and eliminate physical health.
There are many social factors that can contribute in the occurrence of juveniles suffering from drug addiction, such as low family income, poor housing, lack of parental control and abuse, family rejection and peers, accordingly juveniles goes through difficult periods when dealing with different life circumstances, especially stressful ones. During adolescence, juveniles may also suffer from cases of psychological collapse, as they experience they may face a group of psychological symptoms which lead to disturbances and deterioration of personality in general, thinking and behavior. Usually, the cognitive and affective aspects of drug abuse is particularly detrimental to young people. This supports the need for cultural awareness regarding the problem of drug addiction, especially regarding juveniles knowledge, their irrational decisions, and abnormal behaviors. The presence of such challenges in their lives makes them more inclined to abuse drugs and suffer from drug addiction.
Therefore, there are many behavioral problems that can result from juvenile drug abuse and pose a danger to society, such as getting involved in gangs, school dropouts, criminal activity, violence and an increase in crimes resulting from abuse, also behavioral deviations represented in verbal or physical aggression. Teenagers aged between 13-17 years old who used drug and illegal Substances are at a higher risk of experiencing violence, murder, rape, robbery, and assault . It is a particular vulnerable age that requires intellectual, psychological, physical, and social care, and drugs can have a signficiant and life-long negative impact on their lives.
Teenagers or young adults constitute an important category within society. In order to prevent negative factors associated with drug abuse, it is important to intervene at a young age, so that they can make responsible and safe decisions. Drug abuse within society can have severe consequences that threatens the safety,security and stability of society, so awareness and preventive education at an early age is a key prevention tactic.
There is no doubt that the profession of social work has been concerned with preventive efforts to confront the problem of drug addiction, whether at the level of individuals, groups and or wider society. The philosophy of social work in the field of juveniles also depends on the prevention of this category as it is an important group, social work is indispensable in addressing the problems arising within society
Social group work method as one of social work methods can provide members with knowledge, develop awareness, new experiences, and skills to prevented them from deviation, and modifying their abnormal behaviors, by using the group as a mediator to effect the modification, developing their personality through teamwork, and practicing preventive programs from drug addiction.
The program in social group work method, has a positive impact in providing group members with protective attitudes towards drug addiction, represented in knowledge and group activities regarding the problem of drug abuse, as well as developing the emotional and positive behaviors aspects needed to reject drug use and addiction.
Thus, the researchers believed that by conducting a quasi-experimental study to answer the following research question: “Can professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method contribute to the prevention of juveniles from drug Addiction?
Second: The Importance of the study:
1- The problem of drug addiction is considered a significant obstacle in societal developments
2- Intensifying attention to the issue of juvenile addiction prevention, which is under investigated in the current literature n, this study is important as it places focus on prevention of teenagers aged between 13-17 and this group represent the preparatory stage from the danger of drug addiction.
3- Preparing a preventive program in social group work method, which may assist in discovering means of protecting individuals who are at risk of drug abuse.
4- This study may assist social workers in institutions to protect and to treat teenagers from drug addiction and increase adolescents knowledge regarding the causes and risks of drug addiction with the aim of educating and protecting this group from the tendency to use drugs.
Third: The Objectives of the Study:
The main objective of this study: Test the relationship between professional intervention by using a Preventive Program in social group work method in order to prevent juveniles from drug addiction.
The key objective of this study will be investigated through thefollowing subsidiary objectives:
1- Test the relationship between professional intervention by using preventive program in social group work method and developing the cognitive aspects related to the causes and risks of drug addiction for juveniles.
2- Test the relationship between professional intervention by using preventive program in social group work method and developing the emotional aspects of prevention from drug addiction.
3- Test the relationship between professional intervention by using preventive program in social group work method and developing the positive behavioral aspects that reject drug abuse for juveniles.
Forth: The Study hypotheses:
This study seeks to test the validity of the following main hypothesis:
A- The main hypothesis
There are no statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method in order to prevent juveniles from drug addiction before and after the professional intervention.
The subsidiary hypotheses:
The main hypothesis has many subsidiary hypotheses:
1- There are no statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and developing the cognitive aspects related to the causes and risks of drug addiction for juveniles
2- There are no statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and developing the emotional aspects of drug addiction prevention
3- There are no statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and developing the positive behavioral aspects that reject drug addiction for juveniles.
Fifth: Concepts of the study
1- The concept of professional intervention.
2- The concept of the program.
3- The concept of prevention.
4- The concept of the juveniles.
5- The concept of drug addiction.
Sixth: The methodological procedures of the study
1- Study Type: This study belongs to quasi-experimental studies in the social group work method.
2- The method used in the study: this study adopted an experimental method by using one experimental group.
3- Study tools: In this study, the researcher relied on:
A- The Juvenile drug addiction prevention scale (prepared by the researcher).
b- Analyzing the content of reports.
4- Fields of study: The fields of study were identified as follows
A- Spatial area of study: The study and the professional intervention program were implemented in the comprehensive unit for child care in Assiut.
B- Particupants: the professional intervention program was applied to one experimental group consisting of 16 members, ranging in age from 13-17 years.
C- Time of the study: The time range of the study was 7/2/2021 to 30/3/2021.
Seventh: The results of the study:
1- The study proved the incorrectness of the main hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative main hypothesis that “there are statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and preventing juveniles from drug addiction before and after professional intervention.
2- The study proved that the subsidiary hypotheses were incorrect and accepted the alternative subsidiary hypotheses which states that:
First subsidiary hypothesis: “there are statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and developing the cognitive aspects associated with the causes and risks of drug addiction among juveniles before and after the professional intervention.”
The second subsidiary hypothesis : “there are statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and developing the emotional aspects of juveniles before and after the professional intervention.
The third subsidiary hypothesis: “there are statistically significant differences between the professional intervention by using a preventive program in social group work method and the developing the positive behavior aspects in rejecting drug addiction among juveniles before and after the professional intervention.
