Abstract Insects and arthropods are a large unexploited and exploited source of potentially useful compounds for modern medicine (Robert, 1999; Cherniack, 2010). Insects alone represent the largest class within the animal kingdom in terms of species number. They comprise about 55% of total biodiversity and more than 80 % of the estimated number of species on earth (Samways, 1993).The housefly, Musca domestica, belongs to hexapoda (Diptera), and it is a well-known cosmopolitan pest, both on farms and in homes. This species is always found in association with humans or human activity. Also, it is commonly associated with animal feces, but has adapted well to feeding on garbage, so it is abundant almost anywhere people live. Furthermore, the housefly is the most common species found on hog and poultry farms, horse stables and ranches. The flies are inactive at night, with ceilings, beams and overhead wires within buildings, trees, and shrubs, various kinds of outdoor wires, and grasses reported as overnight (Sanchez-Arroyo and Capinera, 2015). |
