Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a type of kidney disease in
which there is gradual loss of kidney function over a period of months
or years. Early, there are typically no symptoms.
Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a
role in both the innate and acquired immune response. IL-18 plays an
important role in host defenses against tumors and infections.
2- Aim of work
The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of proinflammatroy cytokine Interleukin-18 in end stage renal disease.
3- Subject and method
This study was conducted on 150 subjects all collected from
Benha Teaching Hospital and were divided into three groups group (1):
control group composed of 50 healthy volunteer individuals. group (2):
50 patients with renal failure.
group (3): 50 patients with renal failure and inflammation.
Samples of studied groups were analyzed at chemistry and
Immunology unite, Benha Teaching Hospital.
4. The results of our present study can be summarized as follows:
 Our study showed that, the IL-18 level differ significantly (P value
<0.001) among different groups. The higher IL-18 level observed in
patients with renal failure and inflammation followed by patients with
renal failure and lower IL-18 level observed in the controls group.
 The creatinine level differ significantly (P value <0.001) among
different groups. The higher creatinine level observed in patients with
