Abstract

The present thesis has analyzed Mohamed Enani’s Translation of Taha Hussein’s ”Al-Wa’d Al-Haq” as The Fulfilled Promise from a pragmatic– stylistic perspective. It has discussed the problem of equivalence in Enani’s Translation. It has selected random examples from the novel under scrutiny and has assessed the degree of success at which the translator has rendered the source text. It has been shown that the author’s communicative intent is not an easy task to undertake. It is easy for translators to translate the author’s informative intent; however, rendering the communicative intent needs the strenuous labor of the translator’s mind. Indeed, pragmatic inference is needed with a view to deriving the source text’s intended meaning and translating Hussein’s encapsulated experience in ”Al-Wa’d Al-Haq”. A thorough analysis has been conducted and has shown that the translator has exerted great efforts; however, it has been found that the translation is not a perfect rendering of the source text as there are some shortcoming in the target text itself. On some occasions, the target translation has not managed to simulate the features and efficacy of the original. Moreover, the dissertation has assessed the accuracy of the target text translation in terms of its fidelity and sincerity to the source text. Although there are some translation deformities, they are at a minimum and the translation is finally an adequate product.
